There’s so much to do these next two weeks as we prepare for our family road-trip south to Adelaide. We decided that it would be more fun to drive across three states to visit family for Christmas than to fly there. As the girls get more fractious as the end of the school year draws closer, I’m beginning to doubt our decision! I’ve been online looking for helpful road trip tips because I have vivid memories of my own road trips as a child, and while fun, there was also a lot of time spent fighting with my brother, hitting, pinching, picking on each other and doing our best to ignore each other while being stuck in the same car together less than a metre apart for hours on end! We had our headphones that we shared so we could listen to music, and eventually I even got my own ‘Walkman’. These days of course it’s a challenge to keep the kids from watching endless DVDs and playing games on their iPads. I have a plan though, which is to stop every two hours, get out of the car, do some yoga, throw a ball around with each other and get the blood moving about the body. That’s the plan anyway. I also plan to do a heap of baking so we have healthy snacks and don’t fill up on petrol station stodgy food and sugary treats. Again, this is my plan. Being on the road though, things are subject to change without notice!

Tonight it’s my first book club meeting since I quit while studying yoga teacher training, I’m so excited I get to be apart of book club again! I love this time of the year. It’s always crazy busy, but I think the Christmas carols in the stores and the twinkle lights everywhere help me get through it.

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you  are.

In memory of Oscar de la Renta, who sadly passed away late last month. He was the frock master, the go-to couturier for a fabulous event frock. Think Carrie in Sex & the City, the pretty pink frock The Russian gifted her for their date to the Met. In stead, I’ve chosen this flamenco inspired frock for today’s post, worn here by model Angela Lindvall and photographed by Arthur Elgort. Oscar was influential in dressing many of Hollywood’s leading ladies, and also the odd White House first lady. “My job as a designer is to make a woman feel her very best.” He will be missed.

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are!

ChristyTurlington-WarriorOne-StevenKlein-VogueUS2002Oct-b-zob_jpgChristy Turlington wears an orange satin crepe Prada slip frock while practicing Eka Pada Urdhva Dhanurasana also known as one-legged Chakrasana or Wheel pose. This intense yoga backbend stretches the whole body. This particular variation has an additional challenge by including a balance to the pose. You have to have strong thigh muscles and shoulders to practice this pose. I’ve been recovering from a trapped nerve recently so this pose is one I’ve not practiced lately. I love this entire editorial, photographer Steven Klein is a genius, but I guess it helps when your subject is Christy! This editorial is from American Vogue, October 2002.

Christy on yoga: “Yoga is about compassion and generosity towards others. It means being mindful of the world around us.”

I can’t believe that I’m halfway through yoga teacher training. I’ve so much work to do over our break, so it’s not really going to be a break at all! I’m teaching Sky Warrior next week, very excited! Lots of talking in this one, lots of alignment cues to remember. I must remember to take it slow and to breathe!

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are.

stardust edie campbell peter lindbergh grace coddington vogue us, june 2013 09

This image of English model Edie Campbell by Peter Lindbergh is from an editorial called Stardust which was featured in American Vogue’s June 2013 issue. The shoot was styled by Grace Coddington (yes I’m still in Grace-mode) and the frock is very 60s inspired tobacco-brown suede shirtdress from Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane.

I’m going to be busy busy over the next week because I’m teaching Sun Salutations this Thursday at teacher training! So excited because who doesn’t love sun salutations right? I’m still nervous, but the more we teach the easier it will get – I hope!

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are!

“Into the Woods” a Red Riding Hood themed editorial for American Vogue’s September 2009 issue. Expertly styled by Grace Coddington and stars Natalia Vodianova in many crimson coloured frocks but I chose this gorgeous brocade frock by Prada and photographed by the seriously talented Mert & Marcus for today. Click through the image to see more.

This week I got to teach at yoga for the first time and the lead up to it was… let’s just say I was very, very, focused! It was amazing and I had so much fun so I am writing more about the experience in another post because there’s so much I want to say about it I feel it deserves its own post!

This weekend we have been preparing for the girls going back to school next week. The summer holidays are over, they’ve gone by so quickly.

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are!

Give a frock Friday

While away on our glamping trip this week, I finally had the opportunity to engross myself in Grace Coddington: A Memoir (a book my BFF Kirsty gave my for my birthday way back in August) and so my dear friends, the consequences of my reading this marvellous memoir and trip down memory lane is that you will now be inundated with pictures from Grace’s vast catalogue of editorials for Vogue – aren’t you lucky? I love to ready biographies and I am always greatly influenced by the subjects I read about and Grace Coddington has been no exception. I am simply in total infatuation with this woman’s talent and love for clothes and fashion and her delightful self-depracating attitude. She is a woman who comes across as having always known exactly who she is and is incredibly good at self-acceptance and pragmatism. She’s been around for some time and effortlessly fell into modelling and a career at Vogue in a way that just does not happen anymore. And so we come to today’s Frock …

fendi_kate_grace_mario_vogue 2000As it was Kate’s 40th birthday on the 16th (finally!) I wanted to honour that by posting this gorgeous picture taken by Mario Testino (the master of sexy pictures in my mind) for Vogue in 2000 which of course was styled by Grace Coddington. The frock is Fendi and features stunningly detailed crystal appliqué – the perfect frock to celebrate in, yes?

I’m in deep focus this week as I prepare for my first ever teaching session at yoga. I found myself having great difficulty finding the words to poses I have practiced hundreds perhaps thousands of times, it has been incredibly eye-opening and humbling. Speaking, breathing, remembering what to say and to remind students to inhale and exhale is so much harder than it looks!

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are.

rachel weisz_craig mcdean_vogue july 2008I thought this picture perfect in light of yesterday being Halloween and all. My girls adore Halloween, they always have and yet it’s hard to understand why because one year we reluctantly took them out trick or treating and it was a disaster because our neighbours were completely unprepared, one even yelled out to us that they had no candy and to not even bother! Halloween is slowly becoming something Aussies are beginning to embrace – although rather begrudgingly, I think it’s mostly because of marketing at supermarkets. Well, that and the fact that kids love any opportunity to play dress up!

At first glance it appears as if Rachel Weisz is wearing a frock, but actually it is a bright red Giles knit sweater and skirt. She was photographed for a trick-or-treat themed Vogue editorial in July 2008 by Craig McDean.

This weekend is going to be busy, but in a wonderful way because we are celebrating my hubby’s birthday (a milestone one) and one of my gorgeous girlfriends is flying up from Sydney to spend the weekend with us  – I’m on a mission to make this birthday memorable, no matter how much he wants to let it slip past unnoticed!

So wherever you are, I hope you have a wonderful weekend xo

lanvin_caroline trentini alber elbaz_lanvin atelier annie leibovitz_sept 2004

As it’s Fashion Week in Paris, I thought I would post this picture of Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz with Brazilian model Caroline Trentini. This picture from Vogue was shot by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz in the Lanvin Atelier in Paris September 2004. It’s beheind the scenes images of these incredible couture houses that I love so much. The incredible talent in the fingers of the women that work there bringing to life the imaginations of the likes of Alber Elbaz – oh to have that much creativity in even my little pinky!

I like this quote taken from an interview with Alber Elbaz conducted by 90s supermodel Stephanie Seymour for Interview magazine: “You know what it is? I love and respect women. I work mostly with women. And you know, our logo for Lanvin is a mother and a daughter. I’ve always said, “It’s not a lion, and it’s not a horse. It’s a mother and a daughter.” I find the logo very emotional. We really started from scratch eight years ago at Lanvin. It’s the oldest couture house in the world, but when I came onboard, it was a great name without much in it. We slowly moved in. I love coffee, but I always say not everything has to be instant. We took the time. It took eight years to move from 15 accounts to 400 accounts. What’s important is to maintain it as a family business. It’s very much like Interview, which you don’t talk about as a group—it’s a family. The nature of fashion is family. You see that at almost every house—it was owned first by a family. It wasn’t owned by a bank. In fact, the bankers went into fashion later . . . And look what happened to fashion!” Here! Here! Alber!

So today we’re midway through the spring school holidays here and so far, so good – everyone is still alive, and with smiles on their faces! I’m feeling like rearranging furniture in the house today… which room should I start with?

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are!

tumblr_mlcyerqtQn1qe9qato1_1280This week’s frock has been selected from an edit of street style or rather, festival-style from Coachella 2013, shot by Leslie Kirchoff for Vogue. The frock is by who knows (sorry guys), but the jacket is Helmut Lang and they are being worn very well by Vera Balyura, a New York-based Ukraine-born jewellery designer. I’ve chosen this frock today because it has served as inspiration for my look tonight. Tonight hubby and I are going on our first date night in way-too-long, and so I want to look nice, and even though it’s midwinter here, dammit I am going to wear a frock! I have a cute short dress which I am going to pair with a tailored jacket and opaque tights and boots. And so, in a round-about way, this look has influenced my outfit for tonight!

What are you up to this weekend? We’ve a busy one ahead with last minute birthday gift shopping for our youngest daughter Annabel – I am at a complete loss as to what to get her. How can that be? We are also going to be out and about looking at buying a car. Fun fun fun!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I’m catching up with some long-lost girlfriends tomorrow and I cannot wait to see them, it’s been way too long. Lately it feels as if we are further apart than ever, but the reality is we live within a short drive of each other. We all lead such busy lives, it’s truly astounding how time passes so quickly. I’m going to surprise my daughters with the visit, I’m not going to tell them who we’re going to see until we reach our destination! I love doing this with them, it makes for such an excellent surprise for them!

Here’s hoping the sun comes out and stays out this weekend.
