The floor-length silk-chiffon empire line frock designed by Marc Jacobs goes so well with the Martin Margiela graffiti trainers – you know how I love it when stylists pair couture with runners! This image is from “The Long Story” shot by Corinne Day for Vogue UK, June 2002 and was styled by the irrepressible Kate Phelan.

As we settle into the New Year with ease and grace, have you kept to your intentions or resolutions so far? I have committed to 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene to get me back in the swing of my practice. I didn’t really let go of my daily practice over the Christmas break, but I felt it was a good opportunity to encourage myself (and others I hope!) to focus on a daily session with someone else guiding me to keep me headed in the right direction… I am working on keeping my authentic self at the forefront and I believe that showing up on the mat every single day for 30 days will contribute to achieving this goal. I’ll keep you posted! ūüėČ

2f55a35f343de011022276488c098657I am in love with this picture shot by Mario Testino, mostly¬†because at the moment with all this yoga I am heavily influenced by all things India. And so, the saturation of colour, the mandalas on the silk pants and the huge pom-pom accessory around Daria Werbowy’s¬†neck is all saying Yes! to me. Styled by the very talented Lucinda Chambers for Vogue UK January 2005. Click through the image for more from this editorial entitled “The Road to Marrakech”.

We practiced Shirsasana yesterday at yoga teacher training, better known as headstand pose. It was fun because I’ve been practicing this at home a lot lately, I’ve been enjoying the different perspective that being upside down gives me. It’s not often we get to be upside down as grownups, maybe on a roller coaster or swimming, but when else would we get the chance? It’s an invigorating yet calming pose. As Yogananda said, “be calmly active and actively calm.”

Have a wonderful weekend.

Victoria Beckham features on the cover and in the pages of August UK Vogue, photographed by Patrick Demarchelier of course. Here she is wearing a beautiful frock (can I call couture a frock?) from Schiaparelli Haute Couture. Keeping her warm is a wool coat by Maison Martin Margiela and leather boots by Christian Louboutin – who else? What a dream photo shoot, such lovely clothes she gets to model for the camera. Beautifully styled by Lucinda Chambers, the shoot centres around Victoria in the garden, the aim was to see her doing something no one’s seen her do before, at least not in the pages of a magazine.

In Victoria’s own words: “I looked at it [turning 40] and said to myself, I have four incredible children, an incredible husband, a business that’s doing very well. I’ve worked hard and achieved a lot. I don’t think I could have achieved much more,” she told Vogue’s Emily Sheffield, adding: “I wouldn’t be where I am without David. He gives me the security and encouragement to do what I do. I do the same for him.”

For no particular reason, other than being inspired by the lovely Mrs Beckham’s words above, I would like to give my own husband a shout-out just quietly here while I have the chance. Thank you, my love, for all that you do, for all that you are, and for the support you provide, the encouragement you offer me when needed, and for making me breakfast. I may not always show it, or say so, but it is always, always appreciated. Xo

Whether you’re just waking up on the other side of the planet, or if you’re getting ready to settle in, or having your first after work drink, I wish you all a wonderful Friday and fabulous weekend!

Photographed in Brazil by Mario Testino for Vogue UK, date unknown.Kate Moss cooling off in a frock by one of my favourite labels, Marni. Actually she’s wearing two frocks by Marni. Italian and boho but incredibly eclectic at the same time, Marni is a label that steps outside the constraints of classic design boundaries. Such as teaming together clashing prints that they look so good together they no longer appear to clash. It’s as if they always were meant to be. I always imagine that designer Consuelo Castiglioni¬†has been playing dress up in her grandmother’s closet as there is always a vintage element to her collections. This picture is my inspiration today to keep cool in the heat that is our Summer here. This image was photographed for Vogue UK in Brazil in 1997 by Mario Testino. Click here for my previous post on Marni.

I’m off to the library to do my yoga teacher training homework in a civilised, air-conditioned environment! Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are.

Vogue magazine obviously adores Sienna Miller because this image is from her fifth Vogue cover editorial. The frock is by Marios Schwab and it features lots of pretty Swarovski elements. I love the way it hangs off Sienna, but, what I love more is the birds used¬†in the shoot – which of course is a direct reference to Sienna’s role as Tippi Hedren in¬†The Girl (2012) the HBO film based on the Donald Spoto book Spellbound by Beauty: Alfred Hitchcock and his Leading Ladies. According to the book, “The Girl” was Hitchcock’s nickname for Hedren. I am yet to see this flick, but I hear Sienna was nominated for a Golden Globe for it. Click here for more images from the editorial photographed by Ryan McGinley¬†for Vogue UK April 2012 issue.

Speaking of girls, my beautiful girl Chloe turns 10 tomorrow. It feels like only yesterday I held her in my arms as a newborn. My darling Chloe has grown into the kindest, happiest, most sweet-natured child – I am the proudest Mama in the world!

But first we have to get through today because today is Strawbfest – the biggest day on the school calendar for my children. Annabel & Chloe’s school happens to be in the middle of strawberry fields and every year the school holds its main fundraiser ie. Strawbfest. It is a massive undertaking, so many parents volunteer tirelessly to help keep this wonderful event going each year because it raises a lot of money which goes towards such things as computer equipment and musical instruments for the school. So there we all were this morning, out there picking and packing strawberries – it’s such a gorgeous community event.

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are.

Lily Cole Tim Walker 5-723687

I have to admit the internet is so amazing somedays because earlier today I was feeling so uninspired with today’s Frock Friday post that I was actually thinking of taking a break from blogging – truly! I guess it’s because lately I’ve been feeling that I’m not hitting the mark, but then I came across this image of Lily Cole in this 2005 Vogue UK editorial “Lily Takes a Trip” and suddenly, I stopped. I was blown away by the beauty and ¬†Tim Walker‘s genius. I have been exploring his work lately and I’m liking his photography more and more. The glow from the sun and the way it bounces off the wall Lily is leaning on, plus the pink bougainvillea¬†flowers strewn on the ground and tumbling down the wall behind her. Then we have the subject of the photograph, Lily Cole with her butterfly net and in a very cute Chlo√® frock – the combination of all these elements make this picture so memorable. Do you have a favourite fashion image? If you do, I’d love to hear from you. Just leave a reply. xx

Have a lovely weekend!

Best in Vogue – Spring 2013

While we are in the middle of a summer heatwave here, the pre-fall shows are just beginning in the North. But the Spring collections are all over the February issue of Vogue UK. I came across this editorial today and I just love it so I had to share it with you because it’s Vogue UK showing off the best of the Spring 2013 collections with top British models to boot. Enjoy!

burberry spring 2013bottega veneta spring 2013 chanel spring 2013 Giorgio Armani S2013 prada spring 2013 saint laurent spring 2013

Already my favourites are the Saint Laurent pants and hats Рhow gorgeous are they? The Chanel clutches are also very covetable, yes?  Models Edie Campbell, Cara Delevingne, Jourdan Dunn, Stephanie Hall, Lara Mullen, Sam Rollinson, Rosie Tapner & Charlotte Wiggins for UK Vogue February 2013 by Angelo Pennetta.

I’m going away with my little family this week, finally I get a teeny-tiny break from work and also from blogging. No I won’t be completely cut-off, I will probably post the odd pic on Instagram, and tweet the occasional glamping-related rant, but for the most part I will be unplugged and taking it easy by the seaside. Heaven!

Ultra Luxe, and a question of Mad Men

I love the way Mario Testino has captured Karlie Kloss in this luxurious editorial for Vogue UK March 2012. She is all legs, raised eyebrows and big hair, and Lucinda Chambers’ beautiful styling has allowed these ultra feminine clothes to only add to Karlie’s loveliness, appearing more grown up and womanly than I’ve seen her.

Diane Von Furstenberg with Prada raffia bag
Marni worn with Manolo Blahnik heels.
 Valentino
 Oscar de da Renta
 Alexander McQueen
 Prada
 Louis Vuitton
Marc Jacobs

The feminine shapes of Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Marni, Chanel and others reminds me all too much of the shape and outlines of the costumes worn by the ladies in Mad Men, of which incidentally, Season 5 premiered in the States last night.

How long must I wait to watch the new season? Does anyone living on the east coast of Australia know? Not long I hope!

Have a great week,
Heidi
