There’s so much to do these next two weeks as we prepare for our family road-trip south to Adelaide. We decided that it would be more fun to drive across three states to visit family for Christmas than to fly there. As the girls get more fractious as the end of the school year draws closer, I’m beginning to doubt our decision! I’ve been online looking for helpful road trip tips because I have vivid memories of my own road trips as a child, and while fun, there was also a lot of time spent fighting with my brother, hitting, pinching, picking on each other and doing our best to ignore each other while being stuck in the same car together less than a metre apart for hours on end! We had our headphones that we shared so we could listen to music, and eventually I even got my own ‘Walkman’. These days of course it’s a challenge to keep the kids from watching endless DVDs and playing games on their iPads. I have a plan though, which is to stop every two hours, get out of the car, do some yoga, throw a ball around with each other and get the blood moving about the body. That’s the plan anyway. I also plan to do a heap of baking so we have healthy snacks and don’t fill up on petrol station stodgy food and sugary treats. Again, this is my plan. Being on the road though, things are subject to change without notice!

Tonight it’s my first book club meeting since I quit while studying yoga teacher training, I’m so excited I get to be apart of book club again! I love this time of the year. It’s always crazy busy, but I think the Christmas carols in the stores and the twinkle lights everywhere help me get through it.

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you  are.

Photographed in Brazil by Mario Testino for Vogue UK, date unknown.Kate Moss cooling off in a frock by one of my favourite labels, Marni. Actually she’s wearing two frocks by Marni. Italian and boho but incredibly eclectic at the same time, Marni is a label that steps outside the constraints of classic design boundaries. Such as teaming together clashing prints that they look so good together they no longer appear to clash. It’s as if they always were meant to be. I always imagine that designer Consuelo Castiglioni has been playing dress up in her grandmother’s closet as there is always a vintage element to her collections. This picture is my inspiration today to keep cool in the heat that is our Summer here. This image was photographed for Vogue UK in Brazil in 1997 by Mario Testino. Click here for my previous post on Marni.

I’m off to the library to do my yoga teacher training homework in a civilised, air-conditioned environment! Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are.

While away on our glamping trip this week, I finally had the opportunity to engross myself in Grace Coddington: A Memoir (a book my BFF Kirsty gave my for my birthday way back in August) and so my dear friends, the consequences of my reading this marvellous memoir and trip down memory lane is that you will now be inundated with pictures from Grace’s vast catalogue of editorials for Vogue – aren’t you lucky? I love to ready biographies and I am always greatly influenced by the subjects I read about and Grace Coddington has been no exception. I am simply in total infatuation with this woman’s talent and love for clothes and fashion and her delightful self-depracating attitude. She is a woman who comes across as having always known exactly who she is and is incredibly good at self-acceptance and pragmatism. She’s been around for some time and effortlessly fell into modelling and a career at Vogue in a way that just does not happen anymore. And so we come to today’s Frock …

fendi_kate_grace_mario_vogue 2000As it was Kate’s 40th birthday on the 16th (finally!) I wanted to honour that by posting this gorgeous picture taken by Mario Testino (the master of sexy pictures in my mind) for Vogue in 2000 which of course was styled by Grace Coddington. The frock is Fendi and features stunningly detailed crystal appliqué – the perfect frock to celebrate in, yes?

I’m in deep focus this week as I prepare for my first ever teaching session at yoga. I found myself having great difficulty finding the words to poses I have practiced hundreds perhaps thousands of times, it has been incredibly eye-opening and humbling. Speaking, breathing, remembering what to say and to remind students to inhale and exhale is so much harder than it looks!

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are.

Tim-Walker-Vogue-December-2013-600x800Kate Moss looking sultry for British Vogue’s December 2013 issue shot by Tim Walker. She is draped in Vivienne Westwood Gold Label chiffon. Don’t you just adore her little feathered friend? I love owls.

Have you ever had the problem of not being able to find your Christmas decorations or maybe even your Christmas tree for that matter? This seems to be an annual problem for our household. Unfortunately, after turning the house and the garage upside down we are still without decorations and lights! The tree is up and the girls have decorated it with only tinsel and one strand of lights that I recently purchased. I can’t find our wreath either. It’s so perplexing because I was sure I had stored them under the stairs which is of course the perfect place for such things, right? I have not yet given up hope in finding them, so I’ve put off buying any new baubles because I know that the minute I do the old ones will magically appear!

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are in this crazy, busy world!

Today’s stunning Armani Privè embroidered bustier frock is worn by the always fabulous Kate Moss. Photographed by super talented Brit Tim Walker for Vogue US April 2012 in the Coco Chanel suite at The Ritz Hotel Paris and styled by none other than Grace Coddington. For a trip down memory lane, click here to read all about Andre Leon Talley‘s wonderful account of his many fashionable stays at The Ritz – it’s worth the click I promise! 😉

How’s your week been? I don’t know about you but this dark moon Mystic Medusa keeps banging on about has really had me feeling super drained and lacking energy all week. I don’t always understand what Mystic is going on about on her blog, but boy she is accurate when I do!

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are!

The always fabulous Kate Moss in this gorgeous Gucci pleated silk frock. Photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin for Harper’s Bazaar December 1999. She’s rockin’ that beret too by the way. Love it.

As healthy as I am trying to be lately, there is still something that is almost impossible to avoid during the winter months and that is the bloody head cold. I woke up at 1 am this morning with a horrid sore throat, snuffly nose, my head was pounding, you know the drill. My throat started feeling scratchy yesterday afternoon so I dosed myself up on Olive Leaf Extract, vitamin C and I’ve been drinking copious cups of hot lemon, ginger and Manuka honey tea. So far this morning my throat is feeling much better and my sniffles have dried up. I still feel headachy and there is a general feeling of malaise, but all in all I am hoping that if I keep up my arsenal of potions, I may just kick this thing! Part of my recovery plan is to also to spend the day snuggled on the couch with my girls watching Clueless and French Kiss together. It is raining outside after all.

Here’s to a better weekend for all!

A sultry Kate Moss shot by Mario Testino for Vogue Spain for their December 2012 issue.

The gown is Christian Dior and the shoes are Manolo Blahnik.

She looks like a very elegant Christmas bauble.

Finally after weeks of practice and rehearsals, Annabel will be on stage tonight (and tomorrow) for her dance concert. I can’t wait to see her on stage, I wonder if this will be the year where I don’t burst into tears of joy and pride?

Have a lovely weekend. xx

I Heart…

Kate Moss in 2001, photographed by Corinne Day.

Kate Moss with short hair. I’m guessing she didn’t like it herself cause she grew it out pretty much straight away and has had it the same length ever since. But I think she rocked it short and she should do it again.

Kate in a Burberry ad with her funky short do.

Photograph by Mario Testino. I love this shot. Ok, so my goal is to grow my hair like Kate’s is here, with it long in front and leaving the back short.

What do you think? Do you like short hair on Kate? I think there’s a distinct shortage of models with short hair these days. Arizona Muse has been rocking a nice bob for a while, and then there’s Agyness Deyn… But I’m thinking back to the 90s now when Linda Evangelista had a great short style which she used to change the colour of constantly. I loved that! Even Christy Turlington went super short too for a while. You know me, always pushing short hair 🙂

Kate Moss in Givenchy Haute Couture, photographed by Bruce Weber for “Good Morning Vietnam” editorial in Vogue US June 1996.  This dress actually has an incredibly long train which stretches across a two-page spread in the magazine.

I love going back in time with these images. I know it’s only 1996, but sometimes it feels like it was so long ago with the way fashion changes so rapidly these days. Things seemed so much simpler back then, which is of course because they were!

Have a lovely weekend. x

Kate Moss photographed by Tim Walker and styled by Grace Coddington for American Vogue, April 2012. Kate is wearing Christian Dior Haute Couture from the Spring 2012 collection. The images from the shoot which took place at The Ritz hotel have been doing the rounds on the internet. I found the image below a while before I saw the gown in all its glory in this beautiful image from Vogue.

This is the gown as it is being lovingly hand-sewn by the talented artisans at the House of Dior.

I would like to thank you for your patience this week, it has been a very trying time working out the issues with Blogger and why I couldn’t publish anything. It has been stressful and unpleasant, to say the least. But, I am happy to advise that very, very soon, I like, I wish, I heart will be moving to a new home Yippeeee! There is still a few technical details to sort out, and all my work from the last 4 years will transfer across with me to my new self-hosted website, so you will always be able to browse the archives. So until then,

Have a lovely weekend!
