Happy Mother’s Day

Today is when we get to purposely make a fuss of our Mum. If you’re a mum, I hope you get fussed over today. I know there are many mums out there who don’t get to spend the whole day celebrating with family because many have jobs to go to today. I’m one of those Mum’s who will be at work today. It’s a bummer, but that’s life…
So no matter where you are or what you do today, I hope you all have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Cool People #8

De lovely, Diane Keaton. Forever cool.
I finished all of my Christmas shopping today and now they are all wrapped and hidden away for now. I can’t believe how organized I am this year! This may be the last time my girls experience Christmas still believing their present were delivered by Santa. I’m actually kind of sad about that. They’re growing up so fast!

Happy (60th) Birthday STING!

My life-long crush.  The world is a better place when Sting’s music is playing.

Too many songs to choose from, these are just a few of my favourites.

I’d rather be…

Reading, relaxing, taking time-out.

Alas, instead I am busy as a bee, with too much to do and not enough time to do it.  I am off now to volunteer at my girls’ school fete – and dragging my feet every step of the way…

Have a lovely weekend – oh, and yay – Spring is here!

Come on in…

I have been collecting images of different front doors for a little while now and it is so much fun to see the different ways people express themselves with the entrance to their home.

What we see entering someone’s home is also the first insight we get into the personality of the homeowner and those whom inhabit it.  Sometimes people go over the top, using colour, furniture, awnings, fancy doorbells and door knockers to show off their personality and to make their home seem welcoming.
A shot of vibrant colour, whether it be from a paint can or through a plant’s foliage or flowers can really inject some style to a home, don’t you agree?

But then, something as simple as a single hanging plant can be all that is needed.

Rustic front doors are always appealing, they betray nothing of what lies behind them, which is often the case with the terrace houses in places like Surry Hills, Newtown and Glebe in Sydney.  The front doorways are often left un-renovated to deter thieves.

Walking up a foot path to the entrance of a home, whether it be just off the curb like the one above, or thirty to forty paces, the personality of the home’s inhabitants is often displayed by the front door.  A front entrance can be welcoming, maybe even enticing.  It may make you feel a bit of curiosity for what is behind it or it might make you want to turn and run away.

I once lived next door to a little cottage that had a long and narrow foot path leading to an entry much like this one above.  It certainly made me feel like I was heading to somewhere mysterious every time I tread that path.

I don’t think many people could claim that the entry to their home is surrounded by water?  Ah, Venice…

Lovely Lanvin

Don’t you just love how this Lanvin dress shimmers?  I don’t think I could stop myself from twirling round and round if I were lucky enough to wear it.

Lipstick: Toujour Chic

“Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin.  That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.” – Gwyneth Paltrow

I’m a big believer in the power of red lips.  Red lipstick can upgrade your look from very nice to POW!  I also believe that anyone can look good in red lipstick – you just have to choose the right shade.

Whether you are blonde, brunette, have shades of red or strawberry , or if your hair is either short, long, curly or straight, red lips will enhance your look. In fact, it can knock it out of the park!
The perfect shade of red adds a dimension that no other colour does and even better, it looks great dressed up or dressed down. Try experimenting with different shades and finishes until you find the one that’s you.

It is the finishing touch to an outfit like only the perfect accessory can be.  Personally I think that Angie’s dress here is otherwise low-key red carpet, but with her impressive red lips, she has transformed it into sensational red carpet!

“I’ve lived by a man’s code designed to fit a man’s world, yet at the same time I never forget that a woman’s first job is to choose the right shade of lipstick.” – Carole Lombard

If you have fair skin, then coral reds are best for you.  If you have medium skin, then anything from a true red to pinky-cranberry shades suit your golden undertones best.  And darker tones, nothing too bright for you, so a deep rich burgundy or warm brick red work best.
You don’t have to keep your red lips for night time either.  I used to only wear red lips to add a touch of glamour, but glamour is good for day time too.  Just look at Yasmin Sewell above – her red lips really lift her look here and Gwen Stefani has championed red lips for some time now – she is not often seen without them, no matter the time of the day.
Red lips are a great mood lifter too.  The only thing I tend to forget when wearing red lipstick is that it wears off easier than most other shades and touch-ups are a must!
