Give a frock Friday

This week’s post is based on a request I made last week when I asked for some suggestions for Frock Friday from you. Thanks goes to my hubby for this suggestion which I love because I haven’t yet posted a picture of Audrey for Frock Friday.

Do you know the story of when Audrey met Hubert de Givenchy in his studio in Paris? Legend tells he was expecting to meet with the other Hepburn, you know, Katharine, because he hadn’t heard of Audrey Hepburn! Nevertheless, it was meant to be, because Audrey was to became his muse and after the success of his costumes for Sabrina, he went on to design Audrey’s wardrobe for seven more films, and their friendship endured for 40 years. Cute story hey?

I’m not kidding when I tell you it has taken me all week to find and decide on the frock for this post. This is because I didn’t want to choose the same image that we see of Audrey everywhere, you know, the gorgeous black gown from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. But which one? There are so many images of Audrey wearing Givenchy that it became a mammoth task to settle on even one of them. Initially I thought I was going to post the pink Givenchy from Breakfast, I do love that frock so but, then I thought about the one from Sabrina (1954), the one she wears to the Larabee’s party, it’s stunning, a real show stopper. But in the end, I decided on my favourite, the never-fail little black dress. The much-copied but never forgotten LBD Sabrina wears when she meets Linus at his office in New York. It’s classic Givenchy and classic Audrey. Please keep those suggestions coming through on my Facebook page!

Have a lovely weekend. xx

Spring favourites, part 3

This is my final post on the Spring Fashion Week collections. I think…

After all is said and done, the collections from New York, London, Milan and Paris were beautiful, bright and the mix of prints and florals and fabrics was fresh and inspiring. But what is with all the boots? Thankfully though the espadrille seems to be making a comeback and sunglasses are all about making a statement – maybe sunnies are going to be the new “must have” or “it” designer accessory we must have every season, like shoes and handbags? Thoughts? xx

Appealing Things

Sleep is highest on my agenda these days. I am quite disciplined when it comes to sleep because if I don’t get enough, I am the proverbial bear with a sore head. My family tell me I am not pleasant to be around. At least, not for the first hour upon waking… I wasn’t always this way, so there is hope! I go to sleep with my iPod, listening to soothing sounds of waves breaking on the beach with subliminal anti-anxiety hypnotherapy to keep me calm (I know, the irony), I wear an eye mask in the manner of Holly Golightly (mine is not as pretty as hers, mine is one swiped from Qantas business class, but it works) and lately I’ve been wearing ear plugs because there is a colony of fruit bats that make ridiculously way too much noise at dawn, and then there is some random dog that barks intermittently but continually too… I’m exhausted already!

I hope your week is going well. xx

Spring favourites, part 2

I’m loving the bling from the Fendi SS 2013 collection!

I’m having a lazy Sunday evening… one more day of work before I get three days off to spend with my girls to hang at the beach. Yes! Hope your weekend was (and is still) a good one. xx

Give a frock Friday

When Tom Ford departed Gucci in 2004, I remember thinking to myself how boring fashion was going to be without Tom’s collections both for Gucci and YSL to look forward to. Even Time magazine asked the question, “Is this the end of fashion?” But what happened was just the opposite really. There’s no denying that Tom Ford’s brilliant re-vamping of the Gucci brand catapulted the sinking Italian leather goods house into a billion-dollar global fashion empire. But Ford’s influence was felt far beyond Gucci because his example gave legendary fashion houses such as Balenciaga, Lanvin and Balmain a new chance to shine again utilising the talents of unknown designers like Nicolas Ghesquiere, Albert Elbaz, and others.

This is the second Tom Ford dress that has been selected for Frock Friday and the second green one. Perhaps Tom has a fascination with the colour green also? As you know, I am easily swayed by the colour green and I could not go past this stunner the Gucci Fall 2004 collection – click here for more.

I thought I would put it out there this week and ask you if you have any requests for Frock Friday? Do you favour a designer or an era perhaps that you would like me to feature? I thought it might be fun to set myself the task of finding a Frock Friday worthy picture from a reader’s request. Please leave me a comment or pop over to the I like, I wish, I heart Facebook page and leave me a message there.

Have a lovely weekend! xx

I wish…

I have a long-held desire to learn how to play Backgammon. Imagine playing in this situation, pool-side… nothing less than heaven.

What about you, do you have a wish to learn to play a particular game? xx

Creative Spaces

I’m taking inspiration from the Tuscan landscape today, and how beautiful is this Umbrian home and its open living space? Minimalism is perfect here. I am completely in love with the way the owners have lovingly restored this 12th century space using modern thinking and contemporary design with their vision in their extensions, furniture, lighting and decorating. For more on this incredible creative space, click here.

Hope your week is going well. xx

Give a frock Friday

A beautifully captured image of this Chloè Spring Summer 2012 dress in full street style mode! I chose a Chloè dress today in honour of my daughter Chloè’s 9th birthday, happy birthday to my beautiful, horse-mad, always happy, smiley girl!

I’m posting early today as we are heading straight out for dinner tonight to celebrate, I spent all afternoon yesterday baking cupcakes for Chloè to take to class today and for us to take to dinner tonight. Vanilla and gluten-free for school and strawberry and cream for us! I didn’t get time to spray the horses silver to put on top, so I’m going to hold onto that idea for next year.

It’s also the birthday today of my two oldest and dearest friends, and tomorrow evening hubby and I are going to Brisbane to help them celebrate, can’t wait! Happy Birthday Mand and Deb, I love you! xxoo

I hope you all have an amazing and relaxing weekend. xx

Birthday inspiration

My daughter Chloè turns 9 years old on Friday and I’ve only just bought her presents today, and I don’t know how I am going to fit making a cake into the next 24 hours, but this is the cake I want to make for her. Maybe tomorrow afternoon? I think it’s going to take divine intervention some how for this to happen! This week has been a blur – I have had zero time to blog this week, and there are so many gorgeous pictures from Fashion Week in New York that I want to post for you… looks like that won’t happen until next week as I am back at work tomorrow, a day early…

Here’s a quick peek at a favourite from Fashion Week, Suno Spring Summer 2013 Ready-to-Wear.

I did though make the most of today and spent as much time as I could reading a book in the sun at the beach before catching up with my brother for coffee. The sun and the sea today, pure bliss! Enjoy the rest of your week. xx
