Natalia Vodianova stars in Grace Coddington’s vision of Lewis Carrol’s classic Alice in Wonderland, photographed by Annie Leibovitz for American Vogue, December 2003. In this shot, Christian Lacroix is the March Hare and Stephen Jones is who else but The Mad Hatter. Natalia wears Christian Lacroix Haute Couture with painted and sulpted mink dickey over lace top and frilled lame skirt and her hat is custom made Stephen Jones, of course. A classic novel and a timeless editorial. See the whole thing here.
Enjoy your weekend. xx
I am hooked on this living room! The curved shape of the couch and the mix of chairs works well together. I’m loving the red lacquered sideboard and the gorgeous printed cushions too. Although I’m having a hard time trying not to see a robot instead of a cabinet in the righthand corner. What do you see?
With the imminent arrival of our brand new couch, my mind has been occupied with thoughts the current layout of our living room and how am I going to make it all work? The space is large enough alright, but rearranging furniture is a lot easier in my head than in practice! I am looking forward to it though because for me, moving furniture creates the feeling that you have a completely new room at the end of the process. I like that it has the ability to change the energy and feel of an entire space and the start of a new season is a great time to do this. xx
The Wilderness Festival which takes place in the beautiful English countryside of Oxfordshire at the height of summer is exactly where I would like to be right now. This festival is a celebration of the arts and outdoors and encourages people of all ages, especially children, so it was immediately appealing to me. The event mixes together music, food, theatre and literature and is set amongst beautiful forests and is definitely something more than your usual bands and beer tents. There is plenty of glamping, kiddie dedicated fun, wood-fired hot tubs, a spa and a lake to swim in. Oh how I wish I could click my heels together and be there right now!
These photos were taken by Australian-born, English-based photographer Vanessa Jackman and first appeared on her blog here.
It’s late August and Spring has already shown her face here as I’ve packed away my boots and dusted off my sandals. The days are getting longer and the sun is warming up! I’ve just set myself a new goal for the Summer, which is to find a festival like this one and to take myself, hubby and our girls for some Summer festival fun! I really love the idea of dressing up in the manner of Fantastic Mr Fox too. xx
Aymeline Valade is dramatic in red! Alexander McQueen red no less. Photograph by super talented Mario Sorrenti, styled by Emmanuelle Alt and Marie Chaix for Paris Vogue, August 2012.
I hope you like today’s post because I feel that I’ve been toning it down recently, not intentionally, but perhaps I have been a little subdued with my frock choices. Secretly though I have been researching and scouring the internet for incredible frocks for you so be prepared to be taken away to another time and place over the coming weeks!
Enjoy your weekend. xx
P.S. Our new Eames DSW dining chairs arrived today, check my Instagram for photos, they are so comfy!
I find grey an excellent neutral shade with furnishings because it’s so easy to pair with another colour or print and it almost always goes together. Today we finally bought our new couch, it’s a little like the one above, although modular and with a chaise and ottoman. We have persisted (and existed) with our beloved Chesterfield for so long and it really does need restoring and a well-earned rest. The main reason for buying such a large couch was purely so that we can all fit without having to squeeze in like sardines in a can. Now we just have to wait 3 weeks for delivery. We are also very soon going to take delivery of six new Eames DSW chairs for our dining table! We didn’t settle on one particular colour, we went with a mix instead. We decided that having had a collection of mismatched antique chairs for so long, the thought of having anything uniform just wouldn’t be right. Can’t wait!
I’m back to work tomorrow after four days off with laryngitis and a head cold. My voice is still a little raspy, but it’s great for singing! xx
Start your day with a light breakfast, do something different, sit where the sun can gently bathe you so in its warmth.
Maybe a spot of yoga?
Do a little shopping, maybe pick up some stylish vintage dresses…
Maybe some new shoes…
Or perhaps you’re in the mood to splurge on a little Dior number (in my dreams!)
Maybe there’s time to visit a gallery…
Then return home to be creative and put your ideas on to paper.
Time to have a light dinner, maybe a delicious cheese, bacon and herb toasted sandwich?
Maybe then, settle in and watch a classic Meryl Streep movie. I just watched Heartburn. Meryl was great, and Jack was a cad, but he was great too.
Whatever you’re doing, enjoy your Wednesday. xx
I’ve come to notice that even though every Friday I blog about frocks, lately I don’t wear anything but pants. Wide leg, skinny and tapered leg, tailored, cropped, cargo, harem and this season I finally got into wearing prints! Oh sure prints are just fine when they’re on a dress or a skirt, but I’ve never been drawn to pants with prints. I put this post together for you which not only inspired me to buy two new pairs in the past week, but hopefully it will inspire you to do the same (um, to wear prints that is!)
Yes to prints!
I can’t deny it, I still love a good harem pant!
Cropped and spotted.
Giovanna wears a gorgeous bold colour and she wears it well.
Caroline Issa rocks this red pant suit.
Jenna Lyons of J Crew wearing Celine colour block trousers.
While it is winter here it is easier to get up in the morning and to simply put on pants because they are instantly warmer than a dress or a skirt. I’m talking about denim either because I’ve barely worn any of my jeans this winter, which is most likely due to having such a good selection of pants to choose from now, that my eyes don’t wander to any other part of my wardrobe.
I love that pants have been taken to new heights this season, and with summer only around the corner, I’ll have even more new styles to choose from! I think I had better start saving now, although I fear it may be too late!
Do you have a favourite pant or trouser style? Tell me, are you shy about wearing prints and bold colours also? xx
Kirsten Dunst photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for the Miu Miu Spring Summer 2008 campaign. This is my favourite dress from the campaign, it’s so girly and the stripes, well I can never say no to stripes!
Have a lovely weekend. xx
See the full campaign here.
Miu Miu embellished skirt. So very pretty.
Tin can lanterns. Simply wash out a tin can, make some holes with a hammer and a nail and pop in a tea light. Easy!
Taylor Tomasi Hill’s closet. Can I please have one just like it?

This amazing home, Mapesbury Road, owned by stylist Marianne Cotterill is a mix of old, new, midcentury and quirky kitsch. I love the details, and let me just say, the details are constant because every time I look I discover something I hadn’t seen before. Imagine having carte blanche to decorate a house, room by room, using your imagination to fulfil your every decorating desire and fascination! Each room is decorated individually and yet they all tie together somehow. Enjoy these beautiful photographs by Oliver Perrott. I would love to hear your feedback on the inspired decoration and your take on the interior.
Are you not inspired now after all that?
Have a great day. xx
